Why a strike assessment? A strike assessment helps fund out-of-work strike benefits. The Local 315 strike fund, guarantees that a striking member will receive a *$55 weekly benefit in addition to what the International Brotherhood of Teamsters pays out. It will ensure that Local 315 members will not suffer financial strain during a strike.  A strike may become eminent when an employer refuses to compromise with the members in reaching a fair contract, and all resources for settlement have been exhausted.  The fund is also used for education and organizing--efforts which build up the membership's power and resources.

Every member of the union plays a role in building the strike fund.  Each member must pay an annual assessment of $36.00.  The payment is due on or before March 31st of each year, and must be paid directly to Local 315 (if your employer has an agreement to deduct it--do verify that the $36 was deducted from your paycheck).

Failure to do your part, compromises the fund.  Therefore, a $5 late penalty is added each month through the year it is unpaid.  Participate and don't pay late!

*Currently the local weekly benefit is $75.00.  The amount may fluctuate, and is dependent on the fund balance, strike history, bargaining unit size, and pay-out activity.
