Local 315 Scholarships |
|
Local 315 Scholarships are available, applications available March 28, 2008. Deadline to apply July 18, 2008 (postmarked).
There are fifty (50) Essay Scholarships available in the amount of $1,000, Deadline to apply September 30, 2008. Please contact Vicki Alfonso at (925) 228-2246 ext. 12, for questions or to recieve an application.
Scholarships also available through the James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarshp fund. Deadline March 28, 2008. For more details, please visit the following website Hoffa Scholarship Program.

There are three $500 scholarships available: one in the name of
former Local 315 Secretary-Treasurer George Sveum. Contact Local

James R.
Hoffa Memorial Scholarship
The
deadline for applications is
March 30, 2007.
One hundred scholarships will be awarded this program year.
Applicants compete in one of the five geographic regions where the
Teamster parent’s local union is located.
Thirty-one of the awards total $10,000 each.
These four-year scholarships are disbursed at the rate of $2,500 per
year and are renewable annually. Sixty-nine of the awards are
one-time $1,000 grants.

John R. Tucker – George Sveum Memorial Scholarship
Award
 |
John graduated from Liberty High School in Brentwood,
California. His passion is performing arts, specifically theatre. He was
the prestigious, International Thespian Society’s Best Thespian Award
2003-2004. His father Vern Tucker, is a Shop Steward at Diablo Lincoln-Mercury
dealership.
John plans to pursue Liberal/Fine Arts by first attending Diablo Valley
College and advancing afterward to the University of California Berkeley to
concentrate on a Masters degree in Fine Arts.

Chelsea attended and graduated from Antioch High School where
she has been named a Scholar Athlete four years in a row. She’s pretty
involved in sports. She plays amateur softball, helps her younger sister’s
softball team, and assists the handicapped little league disabled players.
Chelsea’s father Anthony DaValle, Teamster driver for Aramark Uniform
Services. His father was a Teamster as well. Each has been a Teamster
member for 35 years.
Mathematics is her
favorite subject. In fact, she hopes to someday become an Accountant an
Algebra II teacher so that she can help teenage students, encouraging them
to love math, as she does. Chelsea is attending Sonoma State University,
majoring in Business and Mathematics

Crystal Mungaray – Teamsters Local 315 Scholarship Award
 |
Crystal graduated from Modesto High School, in Modesto,
California, where she was a member of the California Scholarship Federation,
a International Baccalaureate Certificate recipient, an Area “A nominee for
California Association of Student Leaders, and the Editor for the Panther
Press school newspaper, among others. Michael Mungaray, her father, has
been a Teamster for many years and works for Central Concrete in Brentwood.
Crystal loves the
“medical world” and says even as a child, she played with her stethoscope or
her big, black “scientist glasses. She is currently attending the
University of California, Davis, through a Guaranteed Transfer Option, where
she will be obtaining a graduate degree in Biological Sciences.
Thereafter, her plan is to attend the University of California, Berkeley and
pursue her dream and goal of becoming a Pharmacist.

Christina Brescia is the daughter of Teamster Dennis Brescia of
Pleasant Hill Bayshore Disposal. Christina plans on attending Chico State
and majoring in psychology. |

JUSTIN CHESHARECK |
Justin Cheshareck won the
George Sveum Memorial scholarship. Justin's father, the late John
Cheshareck, was a 30-year-Teamster employed by the former Safeway warehouse
in Richmond. Justin plans on attending Diablo Valley College and
transferring to San Francisco State majoring in Business/ Nursing.
