Local 315 President Steve Gutierrez Retires
Everybody was taken by surprise and somewhat disappointed when in June, Steve Gutierrez announced he was retiring effective August 31, 2006. Steve was a 32 year member of Local 315 and worked his way up through the rank and file serving the Union as a Shop Steward, Stewards Council Chairman, Local 315 Trustee, Business Agent, Organizer and President since 1998. He and his wife Sonia realized a lifelong dream they are still young, their 3 children (Sarah, Emily and Josh) are all grown and out of the house and they decided it was their time to enjoy life. They bought a new home in a community overlooking Mt. Shasta where there are numerous outdoor activities. Steve is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys fishing and hunting. Steve and Sonia said they feel blessed and are so thankful for the happiness in their life. Steve said he is grateful for having the opportunity to serve the members and Union and hopes everyone will have the same opportunity to enjoy their Teamster Pension.
James "Jim” Sveum Appointed by
Executive Board to Fill President Position
As a result of President Steve Gutierrez mid-term retirement in accordance with the Local Union By-Laws and International Constitution the Local 315 Executive Board voted unanimously to appoint Local 315 Trustee James "Jim" Sveum as Local 315 President effective September 1, 2006.
Jim has been a member for 26 years, 16 years as a Steward at Sugar City Building Materials and 10 years experience as a Union Official serving as Local 315 Trustee and a delegate to Joint Council 7 since 1996. In support of Jim's appointment the Local 315 Executive Board has received countless messages of support saying that Jim was a great choice and the right person for the job. In addition to his duties as President Jim was also assigned Local 315 dispatcher and organizer. Jim stated that he pledges all his energy and enthusiasm in doing whatever it takes to get the job done. Congratulations Jim!
Miguel “Mike” Morales appointed Trustee
Miguel “Mike” Morales a 22 year Teamster Local 315 member and UPS Steward at the Concord Building was appointed Trustee on the Local 315 Executive Board. Brother Morales is filling the mid term vacancy created as a result of Jim Sveum appointment as President. Mike took office November 1, 2006 and states “he is ready and optimistic about the opportunity to serve the members and that he is looking forward to his responsibilities as an Officer of the Union”.
